What Are Power Points?

The USA Swimming Power Point system is a standardized method to compare swimming performances across different events, ages, and genders. Points are calculated using the formula:

Points = 1000 × (Base Time / Your Time)3

Where "Base Time" represents a benchmark time that equals 1000 points for each specific event.

Point Scale Meaning

  • 1000+ points: World Record level
  • 900-999 points: Elite international level
  • 800-899 points: National championship level
  • 700-799 points: Sectional/College level
  • 600-699 points: Age Group Championship level
  • 500-599 points: Competitive age group swimmer
  • 400-499 points: Developmental swimmer
  • Below 400: Beginner level
